Do you have no teeth while waiting for dentures?
Usually not. Ask about immediate dentures: made in advance and fitted the same day your teeth are removed, so you leave with teeth. They need adjusting or remaking as your gums heal and shrink over the following months — that's normal, not a fault.
How the timeline works
Impressions are taken before extraction so the denture is ready on the day. Gums change shape fastest in the first weeks after extraction, so expect adjustment appointments, relines, and sometimes a replacement denture once healing settles. Plan the conversation before the first tooth comes out.
What it costs
On the NHS the whole course is Band 3 — £332.10, dentures included, free if you're exempt. Privately, published Cumbrian prices run from £420 for a partial to £2,400 for full acrylic, so ask exactly what any quote includes.
Questions worth asking
Will mine be immediate or conventional? How many adjustment visits are included? When would a reline or remake happen, and at whose cost? A good practice answers all three without being chased.
